Job Opening: Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center Director |

Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center Director The Alliance Library System (ALS) seeks a Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center Director to develop, plan, promote, administer, and evaluate the operation of the sub-regional Talking Book Center. Responsibilities include the ability to: · Plan, direct, and supervise all activities for management of library service for the blind, visually impaired, physically handicapped and learning disabled residents of the Talking Book Center service area. · Develop, manage, control, and evaluate the Talking Book Center’s annual budget and plan of service; prepare monthly, quarterly, annual or other reports as required by the Illinois State Library and the Alliance Library System, plus other reports and surveys as required by the National Library Service. · Maintain a positive working relationship with the Alliance Library System, its members, Illinois Talking Book Centers, and National Agencies; serve as a member of the Management Team. · Other duties as assigned. The ideal applicant would possess the following: · Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library program required; five to seven years library experience in a professional position, five to seven years management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience. · Broad understanding of the multi-type library structure; broad understanding of local, state, and national library trends. · Ability to plan, delegate, supervise, and lead personnel in a manner which will gain respect. · Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas, concepts, and policies both internally and externally, verbally and in writing. · Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. · Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, and procedures. · Ability to obtain a valid Illinois driver’s license and have a minimum of one year driving experience. The salary range for this position is $59,000-74,000 per year. Starting pay will be based on qualifications and experience. Alliance Library System offers the following benefits: · 7 ½ hour work day · Health, dental and vision insurance · 13 paid holidays · 25 paid vacation days · 2 paid personal days · 12 paid sick days · Participation in IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) · Participation in pre-tax retirement savings plans Funding for the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center is based on Federal and State monies. These positions have only been funded through spring 2011.
